Saint Mary’s

Head 7s Coach: Joe Reavey
Team Manager: Henry Hall
Head Coach: Tim O’Brien

Players to Watch
The Gaels boast the best player in the tournament in senior All American Dylan Audsley. His combination of rugby IQ, explosive quickness, strength and skill is unmatched. He can make people miss, run over them and is as sure a defensive player as there is. Kevin O’Connor is the team’s captain in 15s. He is a big, strong runner and defender with the wheels of a smaller player. He is abrasive in contact in attack, defense and the breakdown, and he’ll be needed to win ball. Mike McCarthy is another playmaker. Coach Tim O’Brien calls him the straw the stirs the St. Mary’s rugby drink. He is highly skilled, has a superb IQ and an unmatched competitive drive.

The Scoop
St. Mary’s is one of the longest-standing rugby programs in the United States, with its origins dating back to 1888. The Gaels have enjoyed tremendous success in recent years, winning three national titles in 15s and USA Rugby’s college 7s championship in 2016. This is their first foray into the CRC, but they should instantly be considered one of the favorites. The Gaels are long-time rivals of four-time defending champion Cal, and a meeting between the two would be a savory matchup and potentially the tournament decider.
