South Carolina edged out St. Joe’s 19-12 on a last-second penalty try. The Hawks struck first blood with a nice finish by George Harris for the try, and the conversion put them ahead 7-0. South Carolina quickly countered with a nice run by Christian Harrell. Late in the first half, St. Joe’s received a yellow card, but still kept the pressure on and scored to end the half. Greg McTiernan got the try to give the Hawks a 12-7 halftime lead. The second half started as a grudge match between the 22s, but eventually, Harrell found space in the corner and knotted the match up for the Gamecocks. As the clock ran towards zero, South Carolina’s Nick Skalka grubbered down the touch line and was just short of the try line when he was brought down and obstructed from scoring. That gave him the penalty try and South Carolina the match.
