The University of Notre Dame was founded in 1842 by Rev. Edward Sorin and fellow members of the Congregation of Holy Cross in South Bend, Indiana. Since its humble beginnings, the University of Notre Dame has grown to serve over 12,000 undergraduate, graduate and law students. The Notre Dame Rugby Football Club was founded in 2010. Over its short history the Irish has been able to compete out of the Chicago Area Football Union and now as a part of the Big Ten Conference for the 15s game. In its first season the team played its way to a National Championship game finishing second in Division 2. Since then the Irish reside in Division 1 were they have made the playoffs on three occasions and finished 3rd in the Division 1 fall playoffs this past season. The 7s team was introduced in 2015 to the women of Notre Dame. Making its second appearance at the CRC, the Irish will return to Philadelphia led by seniors Katie Loughran, Alexandra Buccilli, and Olga Niyibizi.
