Players to Watch
Travis Vickers is an all-conference player in 7s and 15s. He plays scrumhalf in both codes. Solid player with ball in hand a reliable defender. Kerry Roberts is a prop in 7s, and his height is an advantage. He was named the Volunteers’ player of the year. Has the ability to make people miss, break tackles and finish. Dylan Craven is another prop who will make an impact. He’s a hard-charging, ferocious defender. He too can create mismatches with his height. On defense or attack, he’s always moving forward asserting his physicality.

The Scoop
Tennessee played and showed well in both legs of the Southeastern Collegiate Rugby Conference’s tournament series this spring. The Vols reached the final in the first and the semifinals of the second, bowing out to eventual champion South Carolina on both occasions. Tennessee participated in the first CRC in 2010, finishing in the top eight. But it would be six years until the Vols got back, and they didn’t fare as well last year, going winless. However, they were situated in the pool of death, doing them no favors. They’re better prepared this year and more athletic across the board.
