U. of Delaware
The University of Delaware was founded in 1743 making it one of the oldest in the Nation. UD is the largest university in Delaware and has become one of the nation’s top universities, with approximately 18,500 graduate and undergraduate students attending. The University of Delaware Men’s Rugby Club (UDRFC) was founded in 1972. The Club currently fields three sides (A, B and Development) and beginning in the Fall of 2016 will once again be competing in Rugby East. The primary focus in the Fall is on the 15s version of the game and in the Spring this expands to Developmental 15s and tournament play in 7s which ensures game time for every member of the 70 strong player pool. UDRFC has produced All Americans as well as players competing at the highest level across club rugby in the United States. Competing as an independent in D1-AA during the Fall of 2015, the Blue Hens finished with a 5-3 record with the only losses being to Rugby East powerhouses Kutztown, Penn State and Wheeling Jesuit. The season ended with a victory against Iona College in the 2015 Bowl Series: #Quinn4TheWin Ice Bucket Challenge, while also breaking into the top-20 ranked teams in the Nation. Under the guidance of former Wilmington RFC Men’s Coaches Struan Murray and Tom Conard, and renowned 7s Coach Biddy Boyle, the Blue Hens are looking forward to returning to the field in the Penn Mutual CRC’s.
