U. of California will once again defend its championship title against Kutztown
The Cal Bears earned an opportunity to play for a third straight CRC title as they beat LIFE 33-5. Cal got things started when Harry Adolphus used his quick side-step to evade LIFE’s tacklers and score the first try of the game. Jake Anderson followed that up with a try with a little over a minute to go in the first half. He outran everybody to the edge and brought the ball over the try line. An incredible team play set up Nick Boyer for another phenomenal try to end the half for Cal. They finished the first frame with a commanding 19-0 lead. The second half looked no different. Anderson got another try and conversion to grab a 26-0 lead at the start of the half. Boyer added his second of the game to put the Bears up 33-0 with less than two minutes to play. LIFE got on the board as time expired thanks to Blane McIlroy.
It’s going to be a rematch of last year’s CRC Final, as Kutztown won their semifinal over Arizona, 19-14. The opening moments of this one were very back-and-forth, with Arizona holding a slight possessoin edge. Kutztown finally broke through when Alex Faison-Donahoe received a great feed and outran Arizona’s Kyle Rogers to open the scoring. A conversion brought the Bears to a 7-0 lead with over two minutes left in the first half. Arizona had trouble executing clean passes throughout the first half, as they found themselves knocking on and dropping many passes. Kutztown wore down tired Wildcat players and grabbed one more try before the first half ended to take a 12-0 halftime lead. Arizona got on the board with under three minutes to play with a nice try from Anthony Spencer. The conversion brought the Wildcats to within a try of the lead. Kutztown quickly crushed any hope of a comeback when Robert Stortz scored off a fantastic setup from Nu’u Aaiva. Dante Weeks, who has had a phenomenal CRC, added a try as time expired for Arizona.
